10 FAVOURITE RELEASES FROM THE PAST FEW WEEKS, SELECTED BY THE NOWADAYS MAGAZINE TEAM.

City Suckers - The Ride

City Suckers, Antwerp youngest old minds, approaching their music like the first ones to ever do so back in the 80s, old school drum computers and synths, time code cables and synchronised grooves.

Ghost Dubs - Damaged

Ghost Dubs, real name Michael Fiedler, aka Jah Schulz, announces a rebirth with 'Damaged', his first album for The Bug's PRESSURE label..

Having recently dropped two criminally overlooked, experimental dub LPs, with his 'Dub Over Science' series, the German producer/bass specialist, now stretches his own parameters of outwardness still further, with these twelve fresh explorations of dub deviance.

Autumns - Dyslexia Sound Source

For his fourth release via Touch Sensitive under the 'Dyslexia Sound' banner, Autumns strips it right down to the bone and takes it back to the Source.

"Raw Product" indeed, Dyslexia Sound Source sucks up and spits out influence over ten tracks that are both lean but massively heavy.

A decade on from his nascent, no-wave debut for Downwards Records, Autumns' productions have both matured and sonically expanded into a dubbed-out dysfunctional metal dance without losing any of the intensity from those early blasts.
Anyone who has caught him live over the last few years knows there is simply no compromise.

Hermit In A Rave Cave - Hermit In A Rave Cave Pt. 3

Part 3 in Legowelt's latest project ''Hermit in a Rave Cave''. Even lower slung house tracks with a twist from the unpredictable and unparalleled brain that roams the dunes of the Hague. Also responsible for Salamandos, Squadra Blanco, Polarius and a swath of other mysterious aliases.

12th Isle - Orsova

12th Isle revisit the various artist compilation format first explored with 2019’s ‘Inkosi’ and assemble a veritable mixtape of sorts unfolding across six tracks aimed with the club in mind. Echo Party get things started with a dub heavy, studio alchemy excercise in discipline that appears in an extended mix to the original form on Murray Collier (Dip Friso) & Hannan Jones’s self-released CD-R. Italian newcomer Guizzi features with a thunderous downtempo excursion with tight conga percussion in a DK/RAMZi vein that feels very at home on the label. Der Opium Queen pulls off a propulsive, video game OST style dancefloor hit that brings to mind that Les Aeroplanes project on Jamal Moss’s Mathematics label from way back when whilst on the Side B a freak-folk skit from Memotone sits next to heads-down motorik from Lo Kindre and a bleep-infused dub techno piece by Toronto via Bangladesh real one Raf Reza. More V/A's to come.

Jarren - Fresco EP

"Following his Apron debut LP, Jarren returns with a new EP titled Fresco that continues to explore his love for analog synths & squelching bass lines. The forthcoming release builds on his signature style with fresh ideas, offering listeners another unique experience reflecting his West Coast origins.

Jarren, an LA-based producer and DJ with Panamanian heritage, draws deeply from his rich musical roots. Growing up with a father who played saxophone, his early exposure to gospel and jazz has shaped his sound. Always in the studio, Jarren’s music reflects this blend of influences. He’s played at some of LA’s coolest spots for the last 10 years and toured overseas, sharing his laid-back dynamic energy with audiences everywhere."

Patrick Cowley - From Behind

Cybernetic disco maestro Patrick Cowley returns to Dark Entries with From Behind, a collection of grooving and ecstatic covers of 60s garage and soul cuts. Best known for his chart-topping disco anthems, Cowley left us with an incredible body of work before his tragic death in 1982 due to AIDS-related illness. Since 2009, Dark Entries has been working with Cowley’s friends and family to uncover the singular artist’s lesser-known sides, including his soundtracks for films on compilation albums School Daze, Muscle Up, and Afternooners. From Behind reveals yet another facet of Cowley’s myriad influences; garage and soul. As a tripped-out teenage music freak who arrived in 60’s San Francisco, it should come as no surprise that these psychedelic sounds, both heady and visceral, infuse Cowley’s oeuvre.

Milan W. - Leave Another Day

‘Leave Another Day’ is arguably the magnum opus of Milan W., whose breadcrumb trail of work as Crumar Young, and as part of Mittland Och Leo, Speedqueen, Beach, and others, has lured listeners deep into the s/Lowlands backwoods imagination over the past 16 years. The album’s dozen songs illuminate the thoughts of an old head on young shoulders; gilding and binding aspects of dusky country, folk-rock, blues, chamber-like jazz noir, spangled kosmiche and indie-pop, with flushes of synthetic warmth and a strikingly poised voice for the ages, perfectly suspended in-the-mix, floating moody above it all.

Toulouse Low Trax - Kiosque Versions

Parisian-by-choice Detlef Weinrich aka Tolouse Low Trax turns the page again. Always willing for a new episode, notion, impulse, idea, ideal. Searching for some light out there. Now Kiosque Versions, a compilation compiled by himself, featuring seven edits by friends and treasured artists. They renew some rare TLT tunes, as well as hits, that never took the charts by storm.

Space Ghost - Dream Tool

Space Ghost is excited to announce the release of Dream Tool, a four track 12” EP produced by Space Ghost himself. Dream Tool offers up four spacious house tunes exploring Space Ghost’s signature style of dance music. Each track is equipped with groovin’ drums, atmospheric pads, catchy piano melodies, and bouncy basslines. Dream Tool is the debut release of Space Ghost’s new label, Peace World Records.
