ORIGINATORSADONIS
Adonis, born in 1963 on the West Side of Chicago, is one of the pioneering figures who helped shape the Chicago house music scene. He is described as "The King of Basslines," an artist with a unique style that brought deeper and more hypnotic elements to the genre, pulling it further into a darker and more sophisticated space. His 1986 single "No Way Back" is a cornerstone in the house music scene, leading to the rise of acid house, techno, and beyond. Before his story began, Adonis was a bassist who drew from jazz, funk, and R&B to sharpen his musical craft. He went on to further his education at the American Conservatory of Music. It was with the Roland TB-303 that he began to set himself apart. Playing with the machine's specific buzzing sounds, he helped shape the acid house movement, creating a sound that would ripple across dance floors worldwide. During the 1980s and 1990s, Adonis worked with labels like Trax Records and Jive Records. In addition to these productions, he helped shape aspiring artists such as DJ Pierre and Liz Torres. His worldwide influence on dance music is undeniably great, with sounds that seem to vibrate deep in the soul, he still inspires new and established DJs alike with his music and, with that, takes his position as one of the few true innovators in the history of house music.
