What’s in this mixtape?
I was inspired by a recent experience I had at a club I’d never been to before, located far outside the city center. I had no idea what to expect when I stepped inside.
The first thirty-ish minutes of the mix are filled with moody, atmospheric bass music, representing that initial moment of walking in—taking it all in, feeling the unfamiliarity, and acclimating to the new environment. It’s about being perceptive, hesitant, and unsure of how to move in this unknown space. The rest of the mix builds towards an immersive soundscape of bass and breaks, reflecting a shift from perception to full receptiveness. It’s about surrendering yourself to the dark corners of the room and letting the music pulse through your body—until the first rays of sunshine guide you home.
I see this as a universal experience. For this mixtape, I tried to imagine, relive, and recreate that internal journey through some of the music in my library.
Favourite food and where?
It’s hard to choose because I love so many different kinds of food, and it really depends on the day and time. But if I had to pick something from the past few weeks: beef croquettes with mustard mayo on a cozy, bustling terrace somewhere in Brussels around 4 p.m., paired with either a draft pilsner or a glass of bubbly!
Who do you look up to in your personal life?
First and foremost, my parents. The older I get, the more I’m in awe of how patient and kind they were with me as I grew up. Beyond that, I look up to my brother and my closest group of friends for their unique creative talents and the incredible accomplishments they achieve day after day.
That classic album we all need to know about?
I went with my first instinct on this one: James Blake, his self-titled album from 2011. It’s been a huge influence on me over the past few years.
Somewhere you’d like to live and grow old?
This answer changes every year, but right now, if not Belgium, I’d say the Basque Country—on a self-sufficient small farm.
