NowadaysMix Series 47Mowgli

With a persistent lean towards the darker and the grittier, Mowgli is known for his leftfield selections that are stripped back to the bare necessities. Heavy-duty drum machine workouts and raw analog synths are always on the menu, and this head chef is cooking up a storm whenever he steps behind the deck. We're happy to have him for this month's mix series! What’s in this mixtape? Well for those who know I play and have a wide variety of genres and interests when it comes to music and its origins. I can keep it dark and melancholic or bright and uplifting depending on what organization and club I’m playing for. For this mix I combined the old with the new, the dark and the happy, all related to that authentic analog feeling I’ve been hunting for since the beginning when I started doing this thing. Expect deep, sometimes dark trax and hot jams made by artists I admire and will keep supporting throughout my career. Favorite food and where? Coming from a city that has a lot of variety when it comes to food and cultural influences you can always wake me up for some Szechuan food at San San or the famous Ayam Penyet at Warung Emjay (don’t order the spiciest option tho). Who do you look up to? (In personal life) As a person who always tried to find his path (with a few ups and downs of course), I never liked following the usual set of rules when it comes to “life”. That also gave me the freedom to be as I want to be. So I don’t have a person I see as a “mentor” besides my grandfather and parents. What I’m learning more these days is to look more at my cultural heritage and be more connected with the communities that are involved in the club culture. This for me is something I feel more at ease at. And always will be. From growing up in the skate scene hanging at the city’s central skatepark to going out with weirdo waves or house heads till the early morning hours at a bar or club. I look up to all these people in the way I see them. That classic music album we all need to know about? Mutual Dreaming by Innergaze (2012). A sick project by one of my favorite producers Jason Letkiewicz (aka Steve Summers) and Aurora Halal. For me, this is the perfect example if I would produce music combining elements of Chicago house, wave, and leftfield. Sometimes very melancholic, moody but yet very bouncy because of its weird rhythms and synth works. Great production and some tracks are also very suitable for a club setting! My favorite track is In Your Gaze!  Somewhere you would like to live and get old? I’m still young (I believe?) so there’s still much to see, discover, and experience in Rotterdam and of course Holland when it comes to club culture and life in general. I think I can adapt quickly to a city/place since I always used to be a city rat. But to get old somewhere I don’t know, maybe a city like Berlin or Paris. There’s much to experience in these cities, discovering their sounds and cultures!
