DJ BOOTHS: PUBLIC RECORDS

Public Records, located on the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn, is a multifaceted cultural center that quickly became a cornerstone of New York's music scene—combining music, hospitality, and design to create a timeless and forward-thinking experience.
Born in 2017, this facility contains five separate rooms: The Atrium is a cocktail bar and plant-based restaurant that turns into a late-night music venue. The Sound Room, the beating heart of Public Records, features both live performers and vinyl-focused DJs on a custom sound system created by Devon Turnbull of OJAS and Jason Ojeda, previously of VOID Acoustics. Cafe Public provides a calm environment for coffee, conversation, and discovery. UPSTAIRS is an intimate listening lounge and cocktail bar. The Nursery is an open-air plant nursery and event sp. Everything in Public Records has been designed with intention. The sound systems, which include Isonoe rotating mixers, were created in partnership with ARUP, an internationally recognized acoustic engineering firm. Nitemind, a Brooklyn-based lighting design group, produced the venue's graphics, which add to the immersive experience. Francis Harris, the founder of record labels Scissor & Thread and Kingdoms, oversees Public Records' music programming. His vision includes artists from a wide range of genres, from ambient to techno, providing a platform for established and new talent. At its core, Public Records is a space that values music's past, present, and future. It's a meet-up spot for artists and listeners, whether they're looking to bury themselves in a well-tuned sound system or have a quiet time over coffee. In a continuously changing city, Public Records serves as a reminder of music's ability to connect people and create significant moments.
