Can you tell us a bit about your background and how you got into music? I was raised in Thailand and have spent most of my life in Asia, absorbing a variety of cultures and influences while traveling between Hong Kong, Shanghai, and India. I got into music by meeting the right people at the right time, and a combination of curiosity, connections, and passion has brought me to where I am today. What’s the most memorable reaction you’ve received from the audience during a set? While playing at a festival in Japan, I was given a beautiful illustration by an audience member. It was a thoughtful gift that perfectly captured the scenery of that moment. Are there any other genres or artists outside of the music you play that you’re particularly into right now? Lately, I've been exploring some bands in the 'Psychedelic Rock' genre, such as Mong Tong from Taiwan and Kikagaku Moyo from Japan.
Bucket list gig? Perhaps a live experimental set high in the mountains of Tibet, performed in front of monks and spiritual cats. Favourite record to play in front of a crowd at the moment? I love mixing old records with new ones and finding ways to make them work together. When it comes to old-school tracks, this is my current favorite that I've been playing all summer: Where do you see yourself in the next five years, both musically and professionally? That’s a tough question to answer—I’m not even sure what will happen five hours from now! Sometimes, the best plan is no plan at all. Give us a track that shaped you and why. I can’t name just one track; the entire album needs to be played from start to finish. It made a big impression on me when I first heard it—emotional, beautiful, mysterious, and full of life. Truly a timeless piece. Stream Sunju Hargun on Soundcloud
